Internships are generally for those in college. " You DON'T have to love math! You have to be able to communicate verbally, graphically, and in writing to excel as an architect. What do you want the younger generation to know about this career for the future? (At least, pre-covid I did!) But all architecture firms are different. " In my job, I work with universities across the country and get to travel. College / studio is HARD and takes a lot of time but if you want to be an architect you will love it! The licensure exams after school take some time and money as well. To officially be an architect, there is a licensure exam that requires a specific type of college degree - know before you go whether your preferred school has a five year bachelor's degree or a four year bachelor of science plus two year masters. " College is a cost, but there are good public school options as well as private schools. Communication - being able to speak and explain your ideas, AND write about your ideas, AND draw your ideas! NOT math!! Common misconception about architecture. " Spatial understanding - being able to picture things in three dimensions in your mind. Earlier in my career, I would spend a typical day drawing a building in some way! " " I have a lot of meetings with clients to review progress on design of their buildings, or talk with others about potential projects. I was good at art and interested in science and architecture is a blend of the two fields. " I knew from a young age that I wanted to be an architect. " I am able to travel to other SWIC campuses for student meetings and class presentations, have worked from home during COVID but pretty much in the office now.
